about

"When he signed up for the Young Talent Competition at the Open Strings Festival in Osnabrück in the year 2000 and then took first prize, we knew off the bat that we had discovered a new talent here. A talent that was agreeably different from the run-off-the-mill guitaristic sounds.
The music produced by the then 24-year-old Karim Baggili was difficult to describe. A little flamenco here, a few arabic scales there, and lots of fire and enthusiasm made it hard to paste a label on the music. Nevertheless, everyone hearing the young musician in the finals of the Open Strings competition was fascinated.
Five years have passed in the meantime. Karim Baggili's music has developed and matured, but has lost none of its fascination. The flamenco technique, the Arabic melodies, it's still all there and coalesces into a logical unity. And it's no wonder, since Baggili, born in Belgium of a Jordanian father a Yugoslavian mother, was in close contact with various cultures since his earliest childhood.

Today, he works with various bands (Nathalie Lorier, Mélanie Gabriel, …) composes music for short films and is continuously refining his technique on the oud and the guitar. His music is original and intensive. It is music that brings together youthful freshness and musical maturity.”
